Designing your first apartment on a budget!

Moving into a new place is such a fun and exciting (stressful) experience! For the first time ever Iā€™m furnishing a completely new apartment EEK. During college and the last few years we had mostly furniture that had been passed down in the apartment or moved in with roomies who had already been living there, which was so nice and cost saving as a young, broke, college student.

Obsessed with the olive tree and TV stand (Target find!)

I loved this entry way idea for keeping my keys and bags organized

I started out on Pinterest first looking at pictures that had a similar design finish to my apartment like driftwood cabinets, white quartz counter tops, white subway tile back splash, and neutral colored walls. Seeing how others decorated these features helped me see things that did and didn't work with apartment.

Next I entered in key design words I gravitated towards like (warm, cozy, wood, plants) and realize styles I didn't like such as sleek modern or anything with harsh edges, black, or even things that were completely neutral. I found myself gravitating towards greens, blues, warm toned wood, and deep seated couches.

For the kitchen I was already bringing a lot of things from previous apartments like utensils, blender (vitamix), pots, pans, and dinnerware. The only things I really needed was the small design touches nothing big. For me I have a butcher block cutting board that I am obsessed with and like to keep it on display, so I was really drawn to things that brought those warm tones I liked in the living room to the kitchen as the apartment is open concept.

Finally after getting a clear picture of the home I wanted to design I used google, to find similar furniture to the styles I was drawn to, taking note what I already had and could use and where I could buy things in order to save money.

Stay tuned I am going to share exactly what I bought to design my apartment.
