5 Minute Fried Boquerones

Salty. Fried. 2 of my favorite indulgences combined. Boquerones Frito also known as fried anchovies is a Spanish delicacy found all over Spain by different names depending on the region, dialect, and way it’s prepared or preserved. I tried this version at an amazing Spanish restaurant and had to attempt my own version ASAP! Taking maybe 5 minutes to make these little fish are the perfect appetizer to serve.

Ingredients:

2-3 tins of anchovies (I used the ones preserved in olive oil)

2 tbsp of olive oil

1/2 cup of flour

1 lemon

Cooking instructions

  1. Prep anchovies, drain can, lay on paper towel and gently pat dry. Heat pan with olive oil on medium heat.

  2. Toss anchovies in your choice of flour

  3. Once heated place floured anchovies in pan. Cook for up to 1 min on each side or to desired crispyness (I love crisp edges so did about a minute and 15 seconds on each side)

  4. Plate up and serve with fresh squeezed lemon

Bonus- Dip these salty snacks in lemon aioli!
